‘VIPASSANA’ explores the artist’s esoteric journey after a 10-day silent meditation experience in the summer of 2019. This insight that she gained ultimately changed her life forever, and this body of work aims to honour a very personal and special memory; the retreat was a total immersion and surrender to a source that is beyond our everyday reality. The connectivity with the Universe which the artist experienced has since led her to
examine the psyche and the colourful epiphanies that she experienced, illustrating this feeling of a stream of light, energy and connectivity entering her body and life. The name of the project is the technique that was taught on the retreat, which is an ancient Buddhist method of meditation. In this project, the models are bathed in vivid, colourful and saturated light in the form of studio lights, coloured gels, long exposure light art
photography and flash photography. Post shoot, the images go through an extensive editing session in Photoshop, to preserve and intensify the colours, textures and abstract shapes. Through the use of projections, artificial intelligence, fabric and props, specialised lighting, a Virtual Reality experience and open space, the viewer becomes part of the work too- an angular human figure revealed moving, exploring and becoming colour saturated and ethereal dreamscapes.
